Tretyakov Art Gallery, Moscow

The State Tretyakov gallery houses a unique collection of Russian art which includes masterpieces created for more than a thousand years. The Gallery was founded by a Russian merchant and maecenas Pavel Tretyakov. He donated his collection to the city of Moscow in 1892. The State Tretyakov gallery has since become a world-famous museum. Nowadays it contains more than 170 000 works by Russian artists from the early religious paintings to the modern art objects. Lenin's Mausoleum

Immediately after Lenin's death in 1924, a wooden mausoleum was originally erected on the square. In 1929, architect Aleksei Shchusev was commissioned to design a more lasting home for the body. The result, opened a year later, is the building your groups can visit and come face to face with one of the most influential leaders in Russia's history. The Bolshoi Theatre began its life as the private theatre of the Moscow proseсutor Prince Pyotr Urusov.
