The White House Visitors Center

The White House Visitor Center, located at 1450 Pennsylvania Ave, offers visitors a window into the president's iconic home. You can explore an interactive touchscreen tour of the White House, view over 90 artifacts from the White House collection, shop at the White House Historical Association retail store, and view the 14 minute film, "White House: Reflections From Within"

National Archives

This unique visit allows you to learn about the history of America through documents, photos, maps, military records, films and artefacts.

The National Archives Building located close to the Mall displays the Bill of Rights, the Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. Students can take a visit to the public vaults which display original records and new interactive exhibits which allow you to explore a variety of documents.

Guided tours for student groups are available Monday to Friday and admission is free, though an on-line booking fee applies.

National Museum of American History

Spanning three floors and containing numerous exhibitions the National Museum of American History looks in detail at the rich heritage of the United States in the areas of social, political, cultural, scientific and military history. The museum is home to more than 1.8 million objects, from the original Star-Spangled Banner to Abraham Lincoln’s top hat; from the first computer bug to the first artificial heart; they are preserved here to help people understand the past in order to make sense of the present and shape a more humane future.

Student groups can try out various activities, such as sending telegrams by morse code and performing various experiments in the interactive Science Center.

The Smithsonian Institution is the world’s largest museum and research complex, with 19 museums and galleries to choose from, along with the national zoological park. Most of which are located on or near to the National Mall. Most of the Smithsonian Institute Museums are free.

Supreme Court

Court sessions are open between October and April on a first come first served basis, which can be difficult to access if you are in a group.

We recommend taking a look around the ground floor and first floor areas of the building that are open to visitors. You’ll find a range of exhibitions covering History, Art and stories of legal legislation. In addition there is a free visitors film that runs throughout the day.

The Pentagon is one the largest office buildings in the world at over three times the square footage of the Empire State. It is the Headquarters of the US Department of Defense, employing some 23,000 military and civilian staff.  

The Pentagon welcomes over 100,000 visitors annually and student groups can take guided tours, which last approximately 60 minutes and give a valuable insight into the working of what is effectively a city within a city.

The Pentagon is located approximately four miles outside the centre of Washington and can be easily reached by Metro. If you wish to visit the Pentagon you must apply directly to the British Embassy.
