Roman Forum, Rome
Now a major attraction for student groups covering History and Architecture, the Roman Forum starts near the Colosseum and continues all the way to Piazza Venezia.
It is a large and complicated site and with the state of the ruins groups need to do their research beforehand to get the best out of the visit. The Forum was the place where public meetings were held, important announcements made and where famous orators would speak and could be found in every city in the Roman Empire.
Rome itself had more than one forum but only the first forum was called Forum Romanum, or Roman Forum. Some of the major attractions to be explored are the Arch of Septimius Severus, The Rostra, where Mark Anthony delivered his speech after the assassination of Julius Caesar, plus there are also the brick remains of the Senate building, known as the Curia.
