Mount Vernon (Home of George Washington), Washington
Located approximately 17 miles from Washington DC and set in over 500 acres overlooking the Potomac river, Mount Vernon was the home of the first President of the United States George Washington and his wife Martha between 1759 and the time of his death in 1799. The mansion houses the tomb of the President, 2 museums and various outbuildings and was designated a historic landmark in 1960.
