The Brandenburg Gate has in recent times been a symbol of both the partition of the city of Berlin and a symbol of the reunification of the city. As such, it is an iconic visit for any History group study tour to Berlin.

Originally built over 200 years ago, it survived the onslaught of the final days of the Second World War, damaged but still standing to find itself behind Russian lines in the partiton of the City. For nearly thirty years visitors would climb a platform in the Western sector and gaze across the Iron Curtain into the former GDR across a barren no-mans land.

This can be incorporated into a walking tour or guided sightseeing tour of the city, please contact our student travel team if you are planning any History group study school trips to Berlin for your students.
