The Forbidden City or Imperial Palace Museum sits behind the Tiananmen Gate and was the former imperial palace.

Home to no fewer than twenty four Chinese emperors between 1420 and 1911, the Forbidden City is open to Beijing’s visitors offering a fascinating insight into the imperial past of China.

It is a huge building just short of 1km long and 750m wide with a 10m high wall and 50m wide moat surrounding it.
