The Renaissance Cloth Hall, built in the 1550’s, is one of the most iconic sights in Poland and is the central feature of the main market square.

During its golden age, traffic came in from the East in the form of spices, silk, leather and wax - and Krakow itself exported textiles, lead and salt from the mines at Wieliczka.

On the upper floor is the Sukiennice Museum, which holds the largest permanent exhibit of 19th-century Polish paintings and sculptures, housed in four grand exhibition halls arranged by historical period.
