If you’re travelling on a tight budget, the following are some of the many fun activities and attractions you can experience in Paris for free.
1) Enjoy free first Sundays
If you’re in Paris at the start of the month, you can visit some of the city’s world famous museums and monuments for free. On the first Sunday of each month, the city’s national museums, including the Louvre and Musee d'Orsay open their doors to the public as part of the free first Sundays scheme.
2) Catch a free film at the Parc de la Villette
Film lovers take to the Parc de la Villette during July and August each year for a free, open-air cinema programme. Each year follows a different theme and features an array of both French and international films. Entry is free, but you can hire deckchairs and blankets if you wish. Audiences are also encouraged to bring a picnic to enjoy before the screenings begin.
3) Take a stroll down La Promenade Plantée
La Promenade Plantée is a tree-lined walkway that can be found on an old elevated railway line in east Paris. Stretching for 4.5km, there are few better ways to explore the city on a sunny afternoon. For many years, La Promenade Plantée was the only elevated park in the world, until the famous High Line was completed in New York City.
4) Visit the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Paris
No trip to Paris is complete without a visit to Notre Dame, one of the city’s most famous and popular attractions. This gothic inspired cathedral is a sight to behold, and entrance is free. However, you do have to pay a fee if you want to climb its towers.
