We are delighted that Olivier Award Winner Matthew Kelly will be opening our festival. With a career spanning over 40 years on stage and screen, covering everything from Shakespeare to Light Entertainment, Matthew will both inspire and entertain your students with insights, highlights and incredible stories of his long and illustrious career. A Q&A session will give them the ultimate opportunity to get advise from someone who has achieved so much in the Arts industry.

Matthew first made his name as a television presenter gaining fame as part of the original team on Game for a Laugh. For 14 years he worked on light entertainment shows including You Bet! and Stars in Their Eyes.

Matthew then returned to acting and appeared in a number of television and theatre productions including Bleak House, Cold Blood, Egypt and Benidorm.

He won an Olivier Award for ‘Best Actor’ in 2004 for his portrayal of Lenny in John Steinbeck's Of Mice and Men at the Savoy Theatre.   

Matthew’s most recent stage appearance was as George MacMillan in ‘Big’ in 2019. His West End credits include Funny Peculiar, Spamalot, Legally Blonde, Waiting for Godot alongside Ian McKellen, and Tim Firth’s comedy Sign of the Times.   An experienced Shakespearean actor, Matthew has played notable roles in Twelfth Night and Taming of the Shrew, and performed at Shakespeare’s Globe in Troilus & Cressida.
